What is a restructuring concept in accordance with IDW S 6?

A restructuring concept in accordance with IDW S 6 (the German standard for restructuring concepts issued by the Institute of Public Auditors in Germany) assesses whether a company is capable of being restructured. It is usually prepared outside insolvency proceedings, for example when banks require this evidence before providing further financing. It is intended to help assess the financial situation and prospects of success of a company. It therefore serves as a basis for decisions by creditors, business owners and courts. The restructuring concept is prepared by an independent expert and must comply with the requirements of the Institute of Public Auditors in Germany (IDW).

The IDW S 6 rules set out the content and requirements such a restructuring concept must meet. It serves as the basis for the further course of action and thus contributes to stabilising and rescuing the company.
